Why I Started This Journey
I have seen what happens when a woman’s contribution to her home is taken for granted.
Growing up, I watched my mother and aunts being disrespected simply for being homemakers. That stayed with me. I had one question: why do we not value any work done in a home?
After watching women all around me being mistreated for taking care of their families, I started to define what a home really means in 2015.
As a Home Science graduate, a risk management professional, an MBA and a B.Ed, I was able to see a different perspective — one that looked at a home not as a burden, but as an organisation being run smoothly by different parts evolving in a leadership process.
We all start from a home and go back to one. And yet, I saw our policies working against building one.
Why do we recognise leadership everywhere except where it often begins — at home?
That question became a journey for me. A journey to understand the home, the work that happens within it, and the people who make it function.
And that journey led me to one powerful idea:
Home Leadership.
A philosophy, not a label
Home Leadership Is About Seeing Home Differently.
It is about recognising that the home is not merely a place we live in.
It is where people grow.
Relationships are built.
Values are shaped.
Decisions are made.
Responsibilities are shared.
And futures are created.
The way we see the home changes the way we see the leadership already within it.

Meet Mona Mehra
Speaker | Author | Educator | Advocate
Mona began her professional journey in advertising and went on to build extensive experience in business intelligence and risk management. A Home Science graduate and B.Ed, she now brings together corporate rigour and a deep understanding of home, family and relationships.
She is the author of Home — The Missing Peace / Piece, and founder of the FamilyMaker Awards, created to recognise homemakers and the contribution they make to families and society.
She also runs public speaking programs that help children and mothers develop confidence, communication and expression — a small but vital part of a movement to include caregiving mothers and children in building stronger homes.

The program is currently designed with mothers and caregivers at the centre, but Home Leadership is not limited by gender. Anyone who takes responsibility for nurturing, managing and leading a home can benefit from this journey.
No. Home Leadership goes beyond cooking, cleaning and managing daily tasks. It is about understanding the home as an ecosystem, recognising the value of unpaid work, building self-leadership, strengthening relationships, communicating confidently, and creating a healthy and sustainable home.
